Safety

Verified drivers

Every driver on Ryde goes through a multi-step identity and document check before they can accept a single trip.

What we verify

  • National ID: checked for validity, so you know who you are riding with.
  • Driving licence: checked for validity, class, and NTSA endorsement.
  • PSV badge: required by Kenyan law for any driver carrying paying passengers.
  • SACCO membership: all PSV vehicles must belong to a registered SACCO.
  • PSV insurance: comprehensive motor private hire or PSV policy, confirmed current.
  • Certificate of Good Conduct: DCI-issued, within the last 12 months.

Vehicle inspection

Before a driver's first trip, the vehicle is inspected. We check:

  • NTSA roadworthiness sticker and annual inspection compliance
  • Working seatbelts on every passenger seat
  • Air conditioning (comfort standard)
  • Body condition (no major damage that could affect passenger safety)
  • Model year and overall condition

Ongoing checks

Approval is not a one-time event. Drivers are re-verified periodically, and their documents are flagged for renewal before they expire. A driver with a lapsed PSV badge or expired insurance is automatically suspended until they re-submit.

Riders can always see the driver's first name, plate, and photo before they get in, and share all of that with a contact in one tap.
