Safety

NTSA-ready

Ryde is built to comply with the NTSA digital taxi-hailing regulations from day one, not retrofitted after launch.

What the regulations require

Under the National Transport and Safety Authority Act (Cap. 404), digital taxi-hailing platforms operating in Kenya must:

  • Verify PSV licences and SACCO membership for all drivers
  • Maintain records of all trips and make them available to NTSA on request
  • Ensure vehicles meet roadworthiness standards before being listed
  • Display driver identity and vehicle details to riders before every trip
  • Have a mechanism for riders to report safety incidents

Ryde's driver onboarding and operations are designed around these requirements.

SACCO compliance

All Ryde vehicles must belong to a registered SACCO. SACCO membership is verified during onboarding and re-checked periodically. A driver who loses their SACCO membership will be suspended until it is restored.

PSV insurance

We verify PSV or motor private hire comprehensive insurance for every vehicle. The policy must be current; expired insurance will result in suspension until a valid certificate is uploaded.

Data and records

Trip records are logged and can be provided to NTSA in the format they require. Rider and driver information is handled under the Kenya Data Protection Act (2019).
