How does the female-driver toggle work?
Coming soon. The female-driver toggle and its night-safety extras are part of Ryde's safety build, launching with the app. This article describes how they will work so you know what to expect.
What is the female-driver toggle?
The female-driver toggle will let you request a verified female driver for your trip. When switched on, Ryde will only match you with drivers who have completed our female-driver verification.
How it will work
- On the ride booking screen, tap the toggle next to Female drivers only.
- Ryde will only show you available verified female drivers.
- If no female drivers are available in your area within the normal match window, the app will let you know and ask if you want to expand the search.
Night-time default
You will be able to set the toggle to turn on automatically for trips after a time you choose (for example, 9 PM), under Account > Safety > Female drivers only.
When active at night, Ryde will also:
- Send a live trip link to your chosen trusted contact
- Add an extra ID check before the driver can start the trip
- Monitor the route for significant deviations
Trusted contacts
Trusted contacts will receive a live link to your trip progress for any trip where the night safety feature is active. You will add them under Account > Safety > Trusted contacts.
Verified female drivers
Female drivers will go through the same document and vehicle checks as all Ryde drivers, plus an additional identity step. The verified status will be shown on their driver profile.
